64 Slice CT

The 64 – Slice CT : Now at Lawrence & Memorial

Lawrence & Memorial’s new LightSpeed VCT can capture images of a beating heart in five heartbeats, an organ in a second and perform whole body trauma in 10 seconds, more than twice as fast as conventional multi-slice CT scanners. And it does so without sacrificing clarity

One 0.35-second rotation of the scanner produces 64 images. For cardiologists, this means new diagnostic power, including CT angiography and rapid tests for help in diagnosing chest-pain patients.

LightSpeed VCT Featured Procedures

  • 5-Beat Cardiac™ - LightSpeed VCT offers the ability to provide a comprehensive view of the heart and coronary arteries with sub-millimeter resolution in just 5 heartbeats.
  • Triple RuleOut™ - The ability to help clinicians rule out (or in) the three most life-threatening critical conditions in chest pain in one single scan – aortic dissection, pulmonary embolism and coronary artery disease.
  • Stroke WorkUp - Once a stroke occurs, it is commonly believed that treatment must be delivered within an hour or less to ensure the best outcome for the patient. Current imaging procedures are complex. LightSpeed VCT offers the speed and resolution required for rapid examination of blood vessels in the brain (perfusion studies), enabling physicians to make a quick diagnosis of stroke and determine the extent of damage, which can help make this complex procedure easier and more routine.
Other Typical LightSpeed VCT Procedures
  • Cardiac and coronary vessel CT angiography
  • Early detection of coronary artery calcification
  • Diagnosis of chest pain symptoms
  • Pulmonary emboli
  • Pediatric assessment
  • Lung exams
  • Stroke workup

Patient Benefits
  • Faster patient exams – entire heart in 5 heartbeats, vascular CT angiography in 4 to 20 seconds, and a single organ in 1 second
  • Less time needed for breath holds, which can mean less stress for the patient
  • Easier access/wheelchair access to patient table – lower table height
  • Breathing lights help coach patients through breath holds – making it an easier exam

Scans as fast as 0.35 seconds. Variable speed capability as well. Higher-speed scanning translates to clearer, sharper images with fewer artifacts caused by patient movement or the motion of a beating heart.
