Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE) is a process which enables development of ministerial skills in a clinical setting through interaction with patients, staff, peers and an experienced, certified CPE Supervisor. CPE is for clergy, seminarians, qualified lay people who wish to achieve one or more of the following goals.
- Learn to be more satisfied & fulfilled in ministry.
- Enhance self-understanding.
- Learn New skills in ministering to the sick & dying.
- Improve their pastoral skills.
Lawrence and Memorial Hospital is accredited by the Association of Clinical Pastoral Education (ACPE) to offer basic (Level I) & advanced (Level II) CPE. We do so in two formats, each requiring an effort of at least 400 hours of the "chaplain intern's" time.
- Intensive (approximately 40 hours/week) Summer Units from June through August.
- Less intensive (approximately 20 hours/week) Extended Units from October through April
