The Labor, Delivery, Recovery, and Postpartum Unit
  • Our Labor, Delivery, Recovery, and Postpartum Unit offers parents-to-be home-like environments for giving birth.
  • Each private suite has its own bathroom, rocking chair, crib, and a pullout couch for family members or friends.
  • A highly trained nurse midwive is available to assist new mothers with normal vaginal deliveries under the supervision of staff obstetricians.

Neonatal Intensive Care Unit

  • The only one of its kind in the region, L&M's Neonatal Intensive Care Unit is ready to respond immediately in the case of newborn stress or premature birth.
  • Board-certified neonatologists staff the 14-bed unit, along with highly skilled nurse practitioners and physician assistants.
  • Our NICU staff provides one-on-one intensive care around the clock for the most critical newborn babies.

Childbirth Education and Parenting Classes

  • Preparing for Birth to Breastfeeding to Caring for your Newborn contact Sandy Campbell at ext 2300. Parenting classes for new parents should contact Mary Samara at ext 3047. Classes held monthly to expectant and new parents.

    L&M sponsors several support groups and community programs geared toward women, such as:
  • Prenatal Yoga Classes
  • Breastfeeding classes

OB-GYN Clinic

The OB Clinic provides comprehensive care to pregnant women who have Medicaid or are uninsured. There is a bi-lingual nurse. Lab and ultra-sounds are done on site.

Clinic hours are: Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday from 8am-4:30pm. The clinic closed on Wednesday.

Services available:
Healthy Start-is a Connecticut Health Insurance Program for uninsured, pregnant women and their children up to age 24-months. For information or to make an appointment, contact Lydia St. Hilaire at 860-442-0711, ext. 2486.

Nutritional Counseling-Patients are seen in the clinic for nutritional counseling.

Social Services-Referrals are made to Social Services when support is needed.

Parenting Education-Mary Samara teaches parenting education to first-time mothers.

Childbirth Education-Classes are offered in English only.

Nurturing Families-A state-wide program that assists parents, particularly high-risk parents, with the challenges of parenthood. The program engages & supports parents before their first child is born through intensive home visits, group-based parent education, information and other support.

WIC referral-Referrals are made to the Women & Infant Care (on nutrition) at the hospital.

Connecticut Breast and Early Detection Program

(A screening program for breast and cervical cancer of the CT State Department of Public Health - serving uninsured women who meet established eligibility guidelines)
