and highly competent care in the region. Lawrence + Memorial Hospital prides itself on its training, experience and state-of-the-art equipment, where the safety and health of you and your newborn is always our top concern.
At L+M, mothers deliver their babies in newly equipped birthing rooms so to safely handle any type of birth, from simple to more complex. After delivery, each mother at L+M recovers in a private suite with her own bathroom, rocking chair, crib and a pull-out couch for family members or friends.
L+M’s Maternity Unit also follows the “Baby Friendly” policies established by the World Health Organization and UNICEF to promote and support breastfeeding, including the philosophy of keeping mother and baby together 24 hours a day.
Relationship Based Care
L+M’s Maternity Services are “relationship based,” which means mothers keep their babies in their rooms, at their sides, and our nurses support the entire family, encouraging sibling visits and their participation in welcoming the new baby.
Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU)
L+M gives all parents the additional peace of mind in knowing that the region’s only Neonatal Intensive Care Unitis just down the hall. That means board-certified neonatologists are always ready at L+M, to provide advanced or intensive medical care during those first critical days of life.

L+M provides services for expecting mothers and new parents, including childbirth education classes during pregnancy, as well as a variety of programs to help support mothers after birth, including certified lactation counselors who provide support, education and encouragement to mothers who choose to breastfeed.
Access to community programs run by L+M is also available to qualified new mothers. For example, new mothers can be linked with the Nurturing Families Program, which can help mothers with parenting skills as well as monitoring critical developmental milestones for their child after discharge from the hospital.
