Anna Cerra Inspiring Global Nurses Award

Greenwich, CT (May 17, 2022) - Greenwich Hospital Chief Nursing Officer Anna Cerra, DNP, RN, was honored for her work to stop human trafficking during the 6th Annual International Nurses Day sponsored by Nurses with Global Impact on Friday, May 13.

Cerra received the coveted “Inspiring Global Nurses Award” for her work to educate healthcare organizations around the world to identify victims of human trafficking. “I feel a great sense of accomplishment that we brought this critically important training to Italy where unfortunately human trafficking is rampant and only going to grow given the current war in the Ukraine,” said Cerra, a Greenwich resident. The event was held at the Hudson House in Port Liberté, NJ.

A native of Italy, Cerra offered to contact her healthcare colleagues in Italy upon hearing the United Nations needed additional sites for an international research study on training large healthcare systems about identifying human trafficking. Two of Italy’s largest hospitals and universities – University of Sacred Heart Hospital and University of Milan, GSD International Hospital – agreed to participate, but they requested the training be done in Italian. Cerra volunteered to translate and present the material. After completion, the Ambassador for the Order of Malta was so impressed, he decided to share the training worldwide for anyone needing an Italian version, impacting hundreds and thousands of people globally.

A 23-year veteran of Greenwich Hospital, Cerra is chief nursing officer and senior vice president of Patient Care Services. She sits on the board of the Connecticut Hospital Association for Patient Care Quality and chairs its Patient and Family Advisory Council. Cerra is one of 12 Catholic nurses on the CICIAMS Pan American International Nurse Consulting Team on Best Practices, a committee that advises 150 Catholic hospitals around the world on evidence-based best practices. Cerra will be presenting her post-doctoral research on “nurse leadership spiritual resilience” at the 2022 World Congress, in Philadelphia, on August 3, 2022,
