The Smilow Cancer Hospital Care Center in Waterford provides access to expert cancer care and treatment to patients and families in southeastern Connecticut and the surrounding communities.

• Medical oncology: chemotherapy and infusion treatments and access to the latest clinical trials through Yale Cancer Center, Connecticut’s only National Cancer Institute designated Comprehensive Cancer Center
• Hematology: care from compassionate, local providers for patients with any type of cancerous and non-cancerous hematological disorders
• Radiation oncology: the most advanced technology provided by Yale Therapeutic Radiology at the Care Center
• Patient navigation and referrals: direct phone line for patient appointments and referrals
• Oncology nurses: all nurses are certified by the Oncology Nursing Society
• Genetic testing: genomic profiling of tumors in collaboration with the Tumor Profiling Lab at Smilow Cancer Hospital
• Lab services: available onsite for the convenience of patients receiving treatment at the Care Center
• Oncology pharmacy: staffed by experienced clinical pharmacists with certifications in oncology pharmacy

During the coronavirus pandemic, we continue to provide care for current and new patients. We have taken several precautionary steps to ensure the health and safety of our patients during their appointments and while receiving treatment. Inside the Care Center, every patient and visitor wears a mask and is triple screened for COVID-19 symptoms. Our physicians and caregivers are also wearing protective masks and are screened for symptoms twice daily. We have modified appointment schedules to maintain safe social distancing and increased rigorous cleaning and sanitization procedures. For patients receiving chemotherapy or radiation treatment, all infusion spaces and treatment machines are carefully cleaned to ensure both safety and comfort. Smilow physicians and caregivers are also accessible through Telehealth “virtual appointments” by telephone or real-time video.

Because a cancer diagnosis can affect every aspect of life for the patient and their loved ones, the Care Center offers many complementary support services, including counseling, support groups and survivorship programs.
