Stephanie Halene, MD, PhD; Danielle Zawatsky

Stephanie Halene, MD, PhD, has been named chief of Hematology at Smilow Cancer Hospital, Yale Cancer Center and the Yale School of Medicine Department of Internal Medicine. Dr. Halene joined the organization in 2006, and served most recently as interim chief of Hematology. Her responsibilities include overseeing the DeLuca Center for Innovation in Hematology Research and establishing a hematology biobank. Dr. Halene earned her medical and doctorate degrees from Eberhard Karls University of Tübingen in Germany. She completed her residency in internal medicine and fellowship in hematology at Yale New Haven Hospital and Yale Cancer Center.

Danielle Zawatsky has been named Yale New Haven Health director of Quality and Safety. She joined the YNHHS Quality Department in 2018 as a safety and quality specialist and served most recently as manager for Quality. Before joining the Quality Department, Zawatsky was a respiratory therapist and served as a supervisor and educator at Bridgeport Hospital. She earned her BS in cardiopulmonary science from the University of Central Florida and a master’s in public health from the University of South Florida, and is pursuing her doctor of education in organizational leadership at Northeastern University.
