These employees received PEACE (Patient Experience Award for Caring and Excellence) recognition for going above and beyond to meet patients’ and families’ needs.

Antonio Lugo, supervisor, Patient Transport; and Andres Navarro and Pauline Malakius, patient transporters; were honored for compassionate care. While moving a patient and his belongings to a new destination in the East Pavilion, the elevator stopped and trapped everyone inside. While Facilities staff worked for more than 30 minutes to free them, the Patient Transport team fanned the patient so he wouldn’t get overheated, sang and played music on their phones to keep him calm. The patient’s family later expressed their gratitude to YNHH for the attention and care their family member received.

The Pediatric ICU staff was honored for consistent grace, professionalism and compassion on behalf of their patients, some of whom are terminally ill. While the PICU team provides patient-centered, end-of-life care and supports families through the stages of grief every day, a recent four-week period was particularly challenging. The staff was recognized for embodying the Standards of Professional Behavior and providing a positive patient and family experience even in the most tragic circumstances.

All employees, physicians and volunteers are eligible for the monthly PEACE recognition. Send nominations to: [email protected].
