Circle of Care: Supporting resilience through shared art

circle of care

They have different perspectives on illness, but physicians and patients discovered a creative connection though a Yale New Haven Children's Hospital Arts for Healing Project that ran from July through November last year. The results of the creative self-care project were on display at a Feb. 10 show and reception, which featured art, poetry, video and music from pediatric physician residents and patients. Residents created their pieces during six workshops with the Arts for Healing team. During one workshop, each resident created two clay stones, keeping one stone and sharing the other with families at YNHCH's annual Pediatric Evening of Remembrance event. At the art show, resident Debra Okafor, MD, showed a mask she created, which was on display with hand art, healing circles called mandalas and other works.
