Blood drive Oct. 6

The American Red Cross will hold a blood drive at the York Street Campus, 7 am - 4:45 pm Tuesday, Oct. 6, East Pavilion Cafeteria special events area. The last 15 minutes of each hour will be kept open for walk-in donors. Health and safety fair Oct. 7, 8

Employees are invited to Employee Health and Safety Fairs, 11 am - 2 pm Wednesday, Oct. 7, York Street Campus West Pavilion 2, upper-level Atrium and Thursday, Oct. 8, Saint Raphael Campus Cafeteria. Employees can try their luck and test their safety knowledge at the Wheel of Safety. The two-day fair, sponsored by the Employee Health and Safety Committee at each campus, also features patient lift equipment demonstrations and techniques for proper body mechanics and ergonomics. Representatives from the Workers' Compensation department, livingwellCARES, YNHH fitness center, Employee and Family Resources and Protective Services, among others, will be available to answer questions and provide information.

Career exploration fair Oct. 10

Employees are invited to a career exploration information fair, 9 am - 2 pm Saturday, Oct. 10, Saint Raphael Campus Cafeteria. Employees must present their YNHH badge for admission. Representatives from area colleges and organizations will discuss educational programs, and additional resources will be available for employees exploring healthcare opportunities. Transforming Healthcare Grand Rounds Oct. 13

Employees are invited to Transforming Healthcare Grand Rounds, 5 - 6:30 pm Tuesday, Oct. 13, Fitkin Auditorium. The speaker is Elizabeth H. Bradley, PhD, whose talk is titled "With the ACA Secure, What's Next?" The talk is part of a series designed to help employees and physicians enhance their clinical leadership by learning from national and international experts on improvement science. Dates added for weight-loss program

An additional eight-week series has been added for Live Well and Lose It, a group weight-management program for employees and their adult dependents covered under the Yale New Haven Health System benefits plan with no copay or deductible. Classes will be Thursdays at 7:30 am, Oct. 22 - Dec. 17, 150 Sargent Drive. The program includes lectures, confidential weigh-ins and goalsetting assistance. Auxiliary to host lecture on musculoskeletal conditions

"The Center for Musculoskeletal Care at YNHH: Creating the Future Today" is the topic of a health education lecture, 7:30 pm Thursday, Oct. 29, Whitney Center, 200 Leeder Hill Drive, Hamden. The free community health education lecture, sponsored by the Yale New Haven Hospital Auxiliary, will be presented by Mary O'Connor, MD, director of the Center for Musculoskeletal Care at YNHH and professor of orthopedics and rehabilitation, Yale School of Medicine. She will discuss the importance and magnitude of musculoskeletal conditions in the U.S. and the focus of the Musculoskeletal Center in addressing and treating them. New clinical support tool - DynaMed Plus

YNHH staff can now access DynaMed Plus, a new clinical support tool that can help staff determine optimal patient care paths. The tool is provided by the Cushing/Whitney Medical Library and is available at <a href="http://library.medicine.yale.edu/">library.medicine.yale.edu/</a>, on every clinical workstation and within Epic. A mobile application is also available. DynaMed Plus content is edited by physicians who follow a strict, evidence-based methodology to select the best and most appropriate evidence. Each physician editor peer-reviews each topic and confirms the content's clinical applicability. DynaMed Plus includes the American College of Physicians' ACP Smart Medicine, the Micromedex Clinical Knowledge Suite and overviews, recommendations, graphics and images. YNHHS receives national information technology award

Yale New Haven Health System has again been named one of the Most Wired health systems in the nation by Hospitals and Health Networks, an American Hospital Association trade magazine. Recognition is based on technology advancements healthcare organizations make to enhance patient safety, clinical quality and customer service and improve efficiency. Most Wired hospitals demonstrate better outcomes in four key areas: infrastructure, business and administrative management, clinical quality and safety and clinical integration.
