Confidential well-being check-ins available to help staff manage the stress of the pandemic

“COVID-19 has had a significant impact on healthcare workers’ personal and professional lives,” said Stephanie N. Sudikoff, MD, director of Simulation, YNHHS, and co-chair of YNHHS’ Wellness, Engagement and Leadership Development (WELD) Council. “Because your well-being is our top priority, Yale New Haven Health and Yale Medicine have created confidential well-being check-ins to help support your needs.”

The confidential well-being check-in program offers employees and medical staff an opportunity to meet with an expert social worker or clinician one-on-one to discuss their needs and access resources to manage stress and improve well-being. Managers will schedule their teams for 30-minute telephone or in-person sessions and ensure coverage for staff’s job responsibilities during their visit.

Check-ins are strictly confidential. Managers will not receive information about the discussion. Participation is voluntary, but strongly encouraged.

“People often downplay their own needs, saying ‘I’m OK’ when asked how they are doing,” said Javi Alvarado, YNHHS’ director of social work and co-chair of the WELD Council. “These visits create an opportunity to be better than ‘OK’ and truly grow from recent challenges.”

Confidential well-being check-ins are currently available at Yale New Haven Hospital. Appointments cover all shifts on both the York Street and Saint Raphael campuses. See your manager for your 30-minute time slot.
