See how a small gesture can make a big difference: Support YNHH’s United Way campaign

How can you feed 1,930 families who might otherwise go hungry, house 1,144 people who have nowhere to go and help 2,684 students deal with trauma in their lives?

Give to Yale New Haven Hospital’s 2019 United Way campaign. It’s that simple. During the campaign, scheduled to launch soon, employees may make donations of any amount to support United Way of Greater New Haven, which supports local agencies serving people of all ages in New Haven and 11 surrounding towns.

Last year, employees contributed more than $201,000 through YNHH’s campaign, which helped 51,600 people receive much-needed assistance, including:

  • 567,210 healthy meals served through the Emergency Food and Shelter Program
  • Food for 1,930 families distributed from mobile pantries across the region
  • Housing for 1,144 individuals through the Coordinated Access Network
  • Support for 2,684 students through the New Haven Trauma Coalition
  • Before- and after-school enrichment programs for 1,963 students

Kathleen Bruenn, manager, Laboratory Medicine, and Lynda Pasquarella, administrative assistant, Human Resources Administration, are chairing the 2019 campaign. Team captains throughout the hospital will raise awareness about the impact their fellow employees can have by donating.

“Service to our communities is part of Yale New Haven Health’s mission, and I know it’s something our employees personally believe in,” said Michael Holmes, senior vice president and administrative chairman of the YNHH campaign. “I’m proud of Yale New Haven Hospital employees’ generous support of the United Way over the years, and I encourage everyone to continue that tradition in 2019.”

Employees may give to the United Way campaign through payroll deduction or by making a one-time donation. Visit Employee Space on Infor to donate. Pledges remain the same for current donors who do not make any changes. The deadline to contribute is Dec. 31, 2018. Payroll deductions begin in January 2018.

In this war, everyone wins

YNHH will once again host Cupcake Wars, noon - 1:30 pm Thursday, Nov. 1, York Street Campus East Pavilion cafeteria special events area. This year’s event will support United Way and Icing Smiles, a nonprofit organization that provides custom cakes and other treats to families impacted by a child’s critical illness. Employees are invited to stop by to enjoy one free cupcake (while they last) and vote for the “people’s choice” Cupcake Wars winner. Employees may also donate cupcakes without participating in the competition. United Way and Icing Smiles representatives will also be on hand to answer questions and share information.
