YNHHS rolls out compensation and benefits for 2019

Yale New Haven Health announced details of its 2019 compensation and benefits program, which provides a comprehensive package for YNHHS employees and remains competitive in the healthcare market.

“We are once again offering a very strong program that is part of our total rewards package to employees,” said Kevin A. Myatt, YNHHS senior vice president and chief human resources officer.

“Next year’s plan offers benefits enhancements that employees have specifically requested to help address personal or family stressors that affect their well-being and can create financial burdens.”

Benefits program for 2019

Beginning this year and continuing for 2019, employees using the Advantage and Advantage Plus plans and their covered dependents will have no deductibles, no co-insurance and set co-pays for covered services at YNHHS facilities. This benefit does not include physician fees.

Additional highlights include:

  • For the first time in two years, premiums for the Advantage and Advantage Plus plans will increase 2.5 percent.
  • No increase in dental or vision premiums.
  • Improved dental benefits that cover composite (white) fillings.
  • While some prescription costs will increase, savings opportunities are available through the YNHHS Outpatient Pharmacy and livingwell CARES Care Coordination Program.

New benefits include:

  • An Autism Spectrum Disorders Program, which covers applied behavioral therapy for eligible dependents.
  • Enhanced infertility coverage when using the Yale Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility Center and YNHHS Outpatient Pharmacy services.
  • Flexible spending accounts administered by PayFlex, a new company, with a carry-over provision allowing employees to carry a $500 balance into 2020.
  • Tuition reimbursement with up-front reimbursement for specific fields of study.
  • A new, voluntary group benefit, critical illness insurance, that will provide a cash benefit if an employee or covered spouse is diagnosed with any of 17 covered conditions.

Compensation program for 2019

The 2019 compensation program again rewards performance through merit-based pay increases, along with opportunities to earn additional compensation through YNHH’s PIP program and special achievement awards.

Highlights include:

  • Merit increases of up to 4 percent based on overall performance rating and pay zone.
  • Employees at maximum pay may be eligible for a merit bonus paid bi-weekly.
  • PIP (Performance Incentive Plan) – Eligible employees may receive up to 3 percent of salary for meeting hospital-wide performance goals.
  • Special Achievement Awards – Up to 2 percent of salary for specific accomplishments demonstrating extraordinary effort.

“To develop the compensation and benefits program, we thoughtfully balanced the needs of our staff with the environmental pressures we face as an employer,” Myatt said. “We are happy to offer one of the best compensation and benefits packages among our peers, and we are committed to continually monitoring our programs and making changes to help our employees enhance their health and well-being.”
