Employee and Family Resources Program wants to teach you how to “Stress Better”

Stress happens, so Employee and Family Resources (EFR) has designed a three-class workshop to help you better manage it. Classes will focus on changing your mindset about stress and learning relaxation techniques. Join EFR coordinator Bud Wassell from 1:15 - 2 pm at the York Street Campus on Mondays Feb. 24, March 9 and March 23, or at the Saint Raphael Campus on Thursdays Feb. 27, March 5 and March 12. At the YSC, the first class will be held in Park Street Seminar Room 202 and the next two will meet in CB 1058 - Bishop Conference Room. Join a live webinar on Fridays Feb. 28, March 6 and March 20 from 10 - 10:45 am. EFR will also offer two webinars focused on teaching employees how to manage stress. One is an on-demand webinar called “Managing Workplace Stressors” that will be available any time, 24/7, for one month starting Feb. 18. The second webinar, “Dealing with Sleep Issues,” is a live webinar taking place on March 2 at 2 pm. This session will look at stress as a contributor to having difficulty sleeping, among other factors. Learn more about the stress webinars. 

Scholarship applications accepted beginning March 1

Applications will be accepted March 1 - April 30 for the Frances Grindell Care Associate Scholarship for YNHH care associates pursuing nursing degrees. To be eligible, employees must be in good employment standing and working at least 24 hours per week for at least one year as a care associate. Scholarships of up to $750 for full-time employees and $500 for part-time employees will be awarded annually to qualified applicants who have been accepted by or are enrolled in a Connecticut registered nursing licensure program. Applications must be submitted online only. Applicants will be required to submit official transcripts and a letter of recommendation from a YNHH manager and complete an application questionnaire. Grindell, RN, a YNHH nurse for 44 years, to honor her love for education and dedication to nursing.

High school student volunteer program applications available for summer

Employees with teenagers interested in volunteering at the hospital this summer should visit the Volunteer Services section of the YNHH website. Students should download the application, which will be available on the website on or around March 2, and sign up for a group interview on the web page. Space is limited and fills very quickly for the eight-week program, which runs Monday, June 22 - Friday, Aug. 14. Applicants must be at least 15 years old and able to commit to a minimum of seven hours per week (one day/week) for the entire program. Student volunteers may help hospital patients, families and staff, learn about healthcare careers and satisfy community service hours.

The Yale New Haven Hospital Auxiliary is a diverse, dedicated and dynamic group of women and men who devote their free time to developing initiatives that support the hospital’s mission. As a member, you can be as active as your schedule allows.
