L+M Hospital launches wellness series Monday, February 26

NEW LONDON, CT – February 9, 2018 – The next community wellness series at Lawrence + Memorial Hospital kicks off February 26 and will include five presentations from members of the hospital medical staff.

All programs, which are free and open to the public, are held in Baker Auditorium at the hospital’s main campus at 365 Montauk Avenue. The five-part series will cover a variety of health topics important to the community.

Dates, topics and presenters include:

February 26 – 5:30 pm
The beating of your heart: Women and heart disease
Valerie Popkin, MD, and Pradnya Velankar, MD, Cardiology
Learn more about prevention, diagnosis and treatment of heart disease in women.

March 8 – 5:30 pm

Melanoma – diagnosis and advances in treatment
Harriet Kluger, MD, Professor of Medicine in Medical Oncology, Melanoma and Renal Cell Carcinoma Unit, Yale School of Medicine
Learn more about causes, early detection, diagnosis and advances in treatment for melanoma.

March 22 – 5:30 pm

Emily Vafek, MD, Orthopedic Surgery
Learn more about diagnosis, treatment and prevention of foot and ankle injuries and disorders.

April 12 – 5:30 pm
Four categories of sleep disorders: lack of sleep, disrupted sleep, excessive sleep and restless leg syndrome
Amit Khanna, MD, Sleep Medicine
Learn more about what’s keeping you up at night or sleeping during the day. Diagnosis and treatment options for insomnia, sleep apnea, narcolepsy and restless leg syndrome will be discussed.
