Lawrence + Memorial Hospital neurologists include those with advanced training in several subspecialty areas. These include epilepsy, headache, movement disorders (e.g., dystonia, Parkinson’s disease), multiple sclerosis and neuroimmunology, neuromuscular medicine (e.g., amyotrophic lateral sclerosis – ALS, muscular dystrophy), as well as stroke.
Patients receive personalized attention and expert care from a multidisciplinary team of neurologists, neurosurgeons, radiologists, physiatrists, nurses, physical therapists and other healthcare professionals.
Patient support for surgical patients includes organizing preoperative tests and admission procedures, making discharge arrangements, which may include rehabilitation and physical therapy, and helping patients understand insurance benefits. Hospitalized neurosurgery patients stay on our Acute Inpatient Rehab Unit for further recovery when necessary.
As part of Yale New Haven Health system, Lawrence + Memorial Hospital provides patients access to cutting-edge clinical trials at Smilow Cancer Hospital through Yale Cancer Center. Patients who qualify have access to Phase I, II, and Phase III clinical trials and research focusing on the latest treatment protocols and medications. Patients who meet certain research criteria may also be able to participate in national neurological research related to lumbar interbody fusion and scoliosis; as well as stroke-related trials through Yale University.
Yale Medicine neurosurgeons at L+M Hospital specialize in advanced, robot-assisted procedures to treat disorders of the brain, spine and peripheral nerves. For complex conditions including pituitary tumors and herniated discs in the lower back, they are experts in ultra minimally invasive endoscopic techniques using a miniature camera and microscopic instruments for greater accuracy and the least amount of muscle disruption.
