Trinity Health Of New England and Yale New Haven Health announce clinical alliance

Tuesday, April 2, 2019

This new collaboration will expand services around the state enhancing access to care

New Haven, CT (April 2, 2019) – Trinity Health Of New England (Trinity Health) and Yale New Haven Health System (YNHHS) announced a broad expansion of their innovative clinical alliance. The enhanced partnership will allow Trinity Health and YNHHS to delivery high quality and cutting-edge patient care throughout Connecticut and western Massachusetts.

The clinical alliance, which does not feature a formal system acquisition or affiliation, builds upon the successful collaboration between Yale New Haven’s Smilow Cancer Hospital and Saint Francis Hospital. Since 2015, that partnership has furthered the top quality cancer care for Saint Francis patients. With this new clinical alliance, YNHHS and Trinity Health will expand upon that successful relationship by advancing patient care into new high impact services, such as the neurosciences and solid organ transplant at Trinity Health hospitals in Connecticut and Massachusetts.

“As the healthcare environment continues to evolve rapidly, it is incumbent upon hospitals and health systems to think creatively and strategically about our collective ability to provide high quality, comprehensive care to all of the patients we serve,” said Reginald J. Eadie, MD, MBA, president and CEO Trinity Health Of New England. “The expanded Trinity-YNHHS alliance will allow for the development of closely integrated clinical programs and will build on existing strengths and shared values of both organizations.”

“We have already demonstrated the value of working together for the benefit of the patients we serve and the potential for this enhanced partnership is incredibly significant,” said Richard D’Aquila, president, YNHHS. “This expanded alliance will allow us to better serve patients in the state of Connecticut and enhance local access to high quality care that is highly specialized.”

As part of the clinical alliance, Trinity Health Of New England and Yale New Haven Health will be working with physicians from Yale Medicine to provide expertise and innovative care to patients in northern Connecticut and western Massachusetts. Similar to the Smilow Cancer Hospital at Saint Francis model, care would be provided directly in local communities, allowing for easier access to highly specialized healthcare.
