The Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) at Lawrence + Memorial Hospital takes great pride in the special relationships and family-centered care that we form with the infants and families we serve in southeastern Connecticut. The NICU allows families to have high-risk pregnancies delivered locally, and for critically ill, or at-risk newborns, to receive the necessary specialized care close to home.
Yale New Haven Health is proud to be recognized by the National Safe Sleep Hospital Certification Program for educating parents about safe sleep practices for newborns. The certification was created by Cribs for Kids ®, a national infant safe sleep organization dedicated to preventing infant sleep-related injuries and deaths due to sudden unexpected infant death (SUID) and accidental suffocation. Yale New Haven Health holds a bronze-level, system-wide designation.
While the majority of newborn infants are born healthy, specialized care and monitoring are sometimes necessary. Should your infant require more care, our tiniest patients are monitored and cared for in our 13-bed Level III NICU by an expert team of Yale Medicine neonatologists, advanced practice providers and specially trained nurses. The team also includes a speech pathologist specialized in pediatric feeding issues and provides feeding therapy when necessary. The unit's private and semi-private rooms offer families privacy and comfort while soft lighting and noise reduction measures create a soothing environment to foster the healing and developmental growth of our patients.
Because family-centered care guides our practice, we are in a unique position to offer you individualized education by providing you the time and skills necessary for you to assume your role as parent.
Postpartum depression affects one in seven women and one in 10 men, though many patients may struggle to recognize the signs.
