Overview

Patient care in Lawrence + Memorial Hospital’s intensive outpatient program (IOP) involves individual treatment plans aimed at helping each patient maximize personal goals for better health. The IOP is group therapy that provides services to adults who benefit from the structure of an intensive clinical program but do not require inpatient care. Medication management is provided by a psychiatrist or APRN as needed.

Approaches to Treatment

Our IOP offers individualized treatment plans to patients from 18 to 85 years old who may have been diagnosed with any number of conditions, including:

  • Anxiety disorders, such as panic or obsessive-compulsive disorders
  • Mood disorders, such as major depressive and bipolar disorders
  • Trauma
  • Personality disorders

We offer treatment approaches that incorporate various concepts, including, but not limited to:

  • Cognitive behavioral therapy
  • Dialectical behavior therapy
  • Holistic therapy-focused groups
  • Relapse prevention therapy

These groups give patients new skills to cope with and/or decrease their symptoms. Patients have the most important role in their treatment plans, setting goals and identifying personal strengths that will lead them through treatment and into recovery. Program graduates report using the skills they learned years later and rely on these skills to get them through difficult times.

Our team of board-certified psychiatric professionals, including psychiatrists, advanced practice registered nurses and licensed clinicians, provide excellent evidence-based psychiatric medication management care.

Morning sessions are available three days per week from 9 am - 12:30 pm. Programs run 6-7 weeks and are offered in two groups:

  • Monday, Wednesday and Thursday
  • Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday

Structure & Skills Development

Most patients who participate in IOP are currently in outpatient treatment but desire more instruction and practice of coping skills. In addition, they may have recently completed inpatient treatment and would benefit from the structure and skills development along with medication management and careful diagnostic evaluation.

Referrals

Intensive Outpatient Services referrals are accepted from psychiatrists, therapists, primary care providers, self-referrals, and inpatient and outpatient treatment programs.
