L+M Hospital recently conducted a full-scale replacement of its vital signs machines. The devices, which check blood pressure, pulse, respiratory rates and temperature, were added to the capital budget based on nurses’ feedback. Shannon Christian, RN, chief nursing officer, explained that in the past, nurses have had to borrow and share the devices due to needed repairs.
The rollout was a busy day for Clinical Engineering staff as they delivered the new devices to all units. Staff were previously trained to use the new devices to ensure a smooth transition.
Samantha Herold, senior manager of clinical engineering, Digital and Technology Solutions, said the new devices are more durable for busy patient floors. “They align with system standards, which helps streamline support and allows for seamless patient care for clinical staff who travel between sites,” she said. “Additionally, the integration into Epic is more secure from a cybersecurity perspective.”
Yale New Haven Health has already replaced vital signs machines at Bridgeport, Greenwich, Westerly and Yale New Haven hospitals. The multi-year project will continue with Northeast Medical Group and ambulatory locations.
