Child Life Services

A hospital can be a stressful place for children and their families. The role of the Child Life Coordinator is to help make the L+M hospital experience a positive one. By providing preparation, education, play and emotional support, children and families are helped to cope with their hospital experience.

Pre-Surgery Program

Families are encouraged to attend a pre-surgery visit with their child (at L+M Main Campus or Pequot) prior to their date of surgery. Appointments are available Tuesdays and Wednesdays and are done individually. The program provides the child and family the opportunity to learn about what to expect during the surgical experience and to have their questions answered. The visits are designed to make children (and families) more comfortable with coming to the hospital and help reduce their anxiety about the upcoming surgical procedure.
