Nuclear Medicine Department
The Department of Nuclear Medicine Technology and Nuclear Cardiology include imaging for the heart, bones, lungs, infection, tumors, stomach, gallbladder, brain, breasts, kidneys, thyroid, and parathyroid.
The Nuclear Medicine's Center for PET and Molecular Imaging includes imaging for tumors, bones and the brain.
The Department of Nuclear Medicine Technology, Cardiology, and the CPMI provide cutting edge technology to provide functional imaging of the body. What separates Nuclear Medicine/PET from the other modalities is their ability to assess the function of the body's organs rather than just see their anatomical structures. This imaging is possible through the injection or ingestion of a radioactive material.
In General Nuclear Medicine and Cardiology, the radioactive material traces specific functions throughout the body; it provides real time functional analysis for interpretation by a Radiologist and/or a Cardiologist.
In PET imaging and some types of specialized Nuclear Medicine Imaging, the radioactive material traces function at its molecular level. This unique type of imaging allows for the detection of some cancers at its very earliest detectable stages. This is also useful in detecting metabolic changes of the brain in patients with dementia or Alzheimer's disease.
The Department of Nuclear Medicine Technology also works closely with Endocrinology to provide treatments for patients with Thyroid Cancer, Hyperthyroidism and other diseases of the thyroid.
No matter which test you are having, you will be greeted by a very knowledgeable staff that put the care and safety of their patient first and foremost. All of our technologists are registered by the Nuclear Medicine Technology Certification Board.
The patients will have the ability to have their test performed using state-of-the-art cameras in newly renovated departments. Our ACR Accredited imaging systems (Siemen's ECAM, Symbia , Symbia-T and PET/CT) can accommodate patient's that weigh up to 500 pounds making us the only imaging center in this area with that capability.
