Wound + Hyperbaric Center

As a team of specially trained physicians and nurse practitioners, we offer treatment plans individualized to the unique needs of each patient whose wounds have not healed through standard therapies.

The Center is also the site of the Lawrence + Memorial Hospital Limb Preservation Program, a multispecialty program that treats non-healing, lower-extremity wounds.

The L+M Wound + Hyperbaric Center is located in the Waterfall Plaza, Waterford, next to L+M's Outpatient Rehabilitation site.

Hard-to-Heal Wounds

There is frequently an underlying health issue in patients with chronic, non-healing wounds, preventing the wound from healing in a natural fashion.

Some of the more common underlying medical conditions include: diabetes, vascular disease, and immobility.

Common Wound Management Indications:

• Diabetic ulcers
• Vascular ulcers
• Pressure ulcers
• Post-surgical wounds
• Traumatic wounds
• Other chronic, non-healing wounds

Treatment of Hard-to-Heal Wounds

At the L+M Wound + Hyperbaric Center, available treatment options include:

• Debridement
• Compression wrapping
• Total Contact Cast
• Tissue and Cellular-based Therapy
• Negative-Pressure Therapy
• Advanced Wound Dressings
• Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy
• We also provide support for ostomy care

Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy

Hyperbaric oxygen therapy is breathing 100 percent oxygen while under roughly twice normal atmospheric pressure.

This treatment increases the amount of the dissolved oxygen that is available to the body's tissues. The treatment is performed in a hyperbaric chamber.

Hyperbaric oxygen therapy has been shown to increase formation of new blood vessels in damaged tissue (angiogenesis); proliferation of fibroblasts (cells that produce granulation tissue and protein, which is necessary for wound healing); growth factors necessary for the repair of damaged tissues; and antimicrobial activity.

When used for wound healing, hyperbaric oxygen therapy is used as part of a complete wound treatment plan.

Common Outpatient Hyperbaric Indications:

• Diabetic foot wounds
• Infections including chronic refractory osteomyelitis (bone infection)
• At-risk surgical grafts and flaps
• Crush injuries
• Injury to tissues from radiation therapy
• Acute peripheral vascular disease

Lawrence + Memorial Wound Care + Hyperbaric Medicine consists of a highly specialized and experienced team that provides an integrated and comprehensive approach to patient care. We work with referring physicians to create an individual treatment plan specific to the patient and their wound. We provide complete assessment, treatment and education.
