Maternity Care

L+M provides holistic and individualized maternity care for each pregnant mother and her family, with the understanding that the birth of a new baby impacts the whole family and its growth and development. Having a baby at Lawrence + Memorial means you, your newborn and your family will experience the personalized care of a community hospital with peace of mind knowing that our clinical experts are trained in the latest technologies to ensure the best possible outcomes.

Maternity Unit
Labor, Delivery, Recovery, and Post-partum

Located on the 4th floor of the main hospital, the 24-bed unit of L+M Maternity Services (often called LDRP, for Labor, Delivery, Recovery and Post-partum) has the area’s most respected team of doctors, midwives, nurses and support services, ready to care for women through all stages of their pregnancy.

Our maternity unit is equipped with the most advanced technologies, including central surveillance of all live fetal heart rate tracings, state-of-the-art labor/maternity rooms, a triage area for assessment and ante-partum evaluation, a fully staffed nursery and a Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU).

There are also two operating room suites located on the maternity unit staffed with certified surgical technicians around the clock.

Many members of our nursing team hold specialty certifications in maternal newborn nursing, inpatient obstetrics, childbirth education, lactation, and all are certified in electronic fetal monitoring.

Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU)

Our NICU – the only one of its kind in southeastern Connecticut – is a Level IIIA NICU and cares for any infant that requires extra medical services after delivery. L+M strives to keep the family unit together with our onsite NICU and neonatology practitioners who are at the hospital 24 hours a day, seven days a week, ready to care for any baby that may need their services.

Lawrence + Memorial Hospital Labor Tub

Increased comfort

Our labor tub increases comfort for women in labor and can help delay the need for an epidural.
